Workplace Benefits

It is quite common for a new job to offer its employees workplace benefits. The date that those benefits start varies depending on the employer. The type of benefits that the employer may include are benefits such as:

Disability Insurance

Disability coverage is a type of insurance that provides workers with monies if they become incapacitated as to whereas they cannot complete their regular job tasks. The disability can be physical or psychological. The benefits will support the covered employee as long as a doctor documents and diagnosis the condition.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term coverage is usually for employees who are disabled longer than six months to one year. Long-term insurance covers the same conditions as short-term disability but it takes over after the person has exhausted the initial benefits.

Accident Insurance

Accident insurance is a policy that helps pay for unforeseen accidents. It’s an excellent supplement to other policies. It covers hospital bills, medications, lodging and other random expenses that come about because of an injury.

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical illness coverage is for employees that receive a diagnosis of a terminal illness such as cancer. Other conditions like HIV and stroke fall under the list of illnesses that qualify for coverage. The covered party receives a lump sum distribution shortly after the doctor diagnosis him or her with the condition.

Universal Life Insurance

Universal life insurance is another policy that a new employee may receive. Universal life insurance is meant to protect the covered person’s family if he or she passes away. It can cover funeral expesnses, hospital bills and any other expenses that the person may have after the policyholder dies.

A worker may receive all, one or some of the above-stated insurance policies. Employers usually provide workers with work benefits either 30, 60 or 90 days after the person starts the job. They usually specify during orientation so that new employees know what to expect. Workers can usually opt out of insurance packages but many of them do not want to because of the protection they receive from them.
